Acts of benevolence

The George Long translation of 1862:

Man is formed by nature to acts of benevolence, when he has done anything benevolent or in any other way conducive to the common interest, he has acted conformably to his constitution. - Marcus Aurelius.  Meditations.  Book 9.

Chrystal's 2017 rendering based on the Foulis translation of 1742:

So man, formed by nature to do kindness to his fellows, whenever he acts kindly, or in any other way works for the common good, has fulfilled the purpose of his creation. Marcus Aurelius.  Meditations.  Book 9.
