Change is not evil

It is no evil for things to undergo change.  Marcus Aurelius.  Meditations.  Book 4.

Image: Sculpture of Aristeus tying the sea god Proteus to a rock to force him to reveal his future, 1688-1714, by Sébastien Slodtz at the Palace of Versailles courtesy of Wikimedia Commons contributor Coyau.  Proteus was a son of Poseidon who could foretell the future, but would change his shape to avoid doing so. He would answer only to those capable of capturing him. From this feature of Proteus comes the adjective protean, meaning "versatile", "mutable", or "capable of assuming many forms".
