Observe the movements of your own mind

Through not observing what is in the mind of another a man has seldom been seen to be unhappy. But those who do not observe the movements of their own minds must of necessity be unhappy. Marcus Aurelius.  Meditations.  Book 2.

Image: Unlabeled Roman Bust that I photographed in the courtyard of the Palazzo Altemps, probably 3rd century CE. The bust was on the other side of Septimius Severus.  The extremely short hair and close clipped beard resembles the hair and beard of the emperor Balbinus although Balbinus was much heavier than this man, even at the age of 74 when he was crowned emperor.
