I was actually thinking of Belisarius and found that this same French sculptor crafted a portrait of a blind Belisarius. But the legend that Justinian blinded Belisarius was a fiction developed by a novelist and though a popular subject for painters and sculptors, not representative of a real event in his life. I saw this piece also by Stouf and found it more poignant.
