I selected this image because it looks like a disastrous day at the hippodrome and reminded me of the Nika riots against the emperor Justinian I that began in Constantinople's hippodrome and extended over the course of a week in 532 CE. They were the most violent riots in the city's history, with nearly half of Constantinople being burned or destroyed and tens of thousands of people killed.
