Show forbearance to a a suppliant

Show as much forbearance to a suppliant as persistence against a foe.  Tacitus.  The Annals. Quoting correspondence from Claudius to Eunones about the treatment of Mithridates of Armenia, a Roman client king,  who had initially triumphed over the Parthians, but later surrendered to his nephew, Rhadamistus.  Book 8.
